“Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by putting on of my hands.”
2 Timothy 1:6 (64.64.66.64. Builth)
Persuaded by Thy word,
I worship Thee,
Constrained to seek my Lord
At Calvary.
A burden gone away,
And blessedness to stay,
Removing all dismay:
I will not flee.
No shame shall wound my heart,
For Thine embrace
Of peace and power impart
Sufficient grace.
My life I now commit,
My will to Thee submit,
And at Thy feet I’ll sit,
To seek Thy face.
O grant me strength to hold
The gospel sweet;
A spirit true and bold
I gladly greet.
Committed to my care,
A truth beyond compare,
O give me grace to bear:
Thy foes defeat.
When error comes to lie,
O keep me, Lord;
Then stir Thy gift in me,
And power afford.
Declare Thy gospel sound,
Destroy when lies abound;
O Jesus, I have found
Thy word a sword.

“And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”
1 John 2:1 (665.665.786. Jesu, Meine Freude)
Radiant in Thy glory,
I behold Thy mercy,
Blessèd Advocate.
Right hand of the Father,
There my rare Redeemer,
Lord compassionate!
Mercy’s day at our last dawn,
Great Redemption, resurrection:
Glorious satisfaction.
See the Holy city,
Splendid in its beauty,
Royal realm supreme.
God has planned in wisdom,
At the consummation,
Days above a dream!
Death’s dominion does not dare,
Tears and fears now gone for ever:
Welcome of our Father.
Heaven and home exalted,
Rest of all adopted,
Plan of love sublime.
Long were the afflictions,
Bitter persecutions,
In the scale of time.
Grace outweighs the fall and sin,
Hail incarnate, born of virgin,
Hail Almighty Sovereign!
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”
Romans 12:1 (C.M. Dunfermline or Mendip)
Reach out my soul to Him who loves
With powerful, pardoning grace.
Who touches me, my guilt removes,
And gives my soul its place.
Reach out my heart to Him who cares
And gives me life again,
Who lifts me up and now declares
That I may heaven attain.
Reach out my life and let it be
Transformed in service true;
O touch my days now filled with Thee,
To give my Lord His due.
My soul, my heart, my days I give
And live for Thee alone.
O bless this pittance and forgive,
Yet it is all Thine own.
“O that Thou wouldest rend the heavens, that Thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at Thy presence.”
Isaiah 64:1 (87.87.D. Prysgol)
Rend the heavens Thou Prince of Glory,
Melt the mountains with Thy grace;
Pour Thy presence, show Thy mercy
And the radiance of Thy face.
We believe that Thou art able
In Thy greatness and Thy love;
Make the nations fear and tremble,
As Thou comest from above.
Rend our hearts in sorrow sighing,
Stir our souls to seek for Thee;
Turn Thy wrath and meet our crying;
Help us from our sin to flee.
There is none that seeketh rightly,
Yet, O Father, we are Thine;
Come, O come, revive us quickly –
Make our hearts to Thee incline.
Cause us now Thy way to cherish,
And Thy righteousness to hold;
Hear our plea, Lord, else we perish!
Call and bring us to Thy fold.
None hath seen so dear a Saviour;
None hath heard so sweet a sound
As the name of our Redeemer:
May His praises now abound.
Thou dost meet the heart that seeks Thee,
Righteousness His robe and joy;
Thou delightest in Thy mercy
When our souls Thy grace employ.
Since the world began its journey
Eye and ear have never seen,
All the wonders of the glory
God provides, beyond our dream.
Lord the sight of our condition,
Degradation is our way;
Filthy garments our destruction,
Sin would hold its evil sway.
Like a faded leaf we wither,
Causèd by the wind to fly:
Brief our life and we can never
Stay the hand that bids us die.
Cause us now to call upon Thee,
Call upon the Name of Names;
Stir our hearts to gaze at Calvary,
There behold reviving flames.
Holy gates of Zion City,
Now let Israel see Thy face,
For the God of might and glory
Dwells within Thy holy place.
“Wilt Thou not revive us again: that Thy people may rejoice in Thee?”
Psalm 85:6 (10.10.10.10. Toulon)
Revive Thy work, as in the days of yore,
Stir up our souls and cause us to adore;
Stretch forth Thine arm and draw us to Thy fold:
Forgotten be our foolish days of old.
Sweet is the favour that we now receive,
Gentle the presence as we thus believe:
Visit Thy vineyard, grace to us incline,
And let our praises be Thy sweetest vine.
Humble our hearts, and lift us to Thy throne,
Cause us to cry and call on Thee alone.
Almighty Saviour, Lord, Redeemer, Friend;
Thou art our Sovereign God and glorious end.
Blessèd the people that upon Thee call,
Endless the blessing that our hearts enthral:
Glory to God His majesty be praised,
Incense of worship, evermore be raised.
“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree.”
1 Peter 2:24 (87.87. Cross of Jesus)
Rich the wood that bore the Saviour;
Sad the nails that held Him there.
Yet they knew not of the horror
Of the hate that men did dare.
Wise the prophets in the pages
Of past centuries of time;
Joined with joy the laden sages,
In their gifts to Christ sublime.
Strange the sight, to men of sorrow,
Was the cross, a place of death;
Such the eternal Son did borrow
There to breathe His latest breath.
Yet the breath of life eternal
Was the gift He gave to men,
Saving them from hell infernal:
Let the people say ‘Amen!’
